Chocolate Fondue for Two

Yes, it’s that time of year again… the days leading up to Valentine’s Day.  And what does that mean to you?  You may be thinking sappy cards and candy hearts, fluttering cupids and red roses.  But, if you were to ask me, I would have to say chocolate.  Mmm… chocolate.  And one of the best ways to have chocolate is in a fondue.

Chocolate fondue for two… that has a nice ring to it.  Especially romantic after a Valentine’s day meal.  You can have chocolate fondue with strawberries, the sentimental favorite, but almost any fruit will do.  In the past, I’ve used melon, mango, banana, maraschino cherries, apples, pears, seedless grapes and pineapple.  You can also use cubes of dense cake, plain cookies, biscotti, marshmallows, and lady fingers to mix it up a bit.

If you are looking for a fondue pot, I’ve found one that works for both chocolate and cheese, as well as broths and oil-based fondues… the stylish Trudeau Electric 3 in 1 Fondue 11 Piece Set.

The best thing about this fondue pot is its ability to adapt to the differences between hot fondues like simmering broths and oils, and warm fondues like cheese and chocolate.

If you are doing a hot fondue, you would just use the stainless steel pot and turn the temperature control up.  If you are doing a warm fondue, you would then use the included ceramic pot insert, similar to a double boiler set-up.  The ceramic material heats evenly to maintain the proper temperature and consistency of the warm fondue.  I guess you could buy a regular fondue pot where you would have to be constantly stirring the fondue to redistribute the heat and prevent scorching; but why bother if you don’t have to?

This fondue pot’s upright design is very cool.  Six color-coded fondue forks are included.  The stainless steel pot can be separated from the heating element for pre-heating on the stove.  The ceramic pot can be used in the microwave to melt chocolate or cheese right in the pot.  Both the ceramic and stainless steel pots can be submerged in water, making clean-up easy.  There is also a breakaway magnetic plug, to prevent someone from bringing the whole set-up to the floor if the cord was pulled by accident.
